Setting up a new DSL connection with Teleboy – here's how it works

What is a new line activation and when is it needed?

A new line activation is required if there is no active DSL connection at your address yet. This is typically the case if your internet connection has so far only been provided via a coaxial cable (Sunrise/UPC), if a Swisscom DSL line no longer exists, or if one has never been in use.

Unlike a simple provider switch where DSL via the Swisscom infrastructure was already in use, a new line activation requires the telephone line to be physically activated first – this requires an on-site visit by a qualified electrician.

How a new line activation works

1

You order your internet subscription with Teleboy.

During the order process, you specify your desired activation date.
2

Teleboy registers the line with Swisscom.Teleboy places the order for your requested date. Swisscom is the responsible network operator and determines the definitive activation date.

3

You receive an email with the confirmed activation date.

This email also contains the line transfer data for the electrician for your flat (terminal block and handover point/UP & UPK).
4

You arrange for an electrician to carry out the new line activation.

The electrician's visit must take place before the activation date. The electrician enables the telephone socket so that Swisscom can activate the line on the agreed date. The customer arranges the electrician, not Teleboy.
5

On the activation date, Swisscom activates the line.

From this date your internet is active and you can connect and set up your router.
6

You set up your router.

The setup guide is available at teleboy.ch/setup.

The electrician – what you need to know

1

You arrange the electrician yourself. Teleboy does not provide an electrician – you must hire a certified electrician directly.

Tip:  If you don't know an electrician, you can easily find one in your area here: Find an electrician for internet activation

2

The visit must take place before the activation date. Only once the electrician has enabled the telephone socket can Swisscom activate the line on the agreed date.

3

The costs are borne by the customer. The costs for the electrician's visit are not included in your Teleboy subscription and are billed directly by the electrician. The average cost is between CHF 120 and 150

Important: If the electrician's visit does not take place in time before the activation date, the line cannot be activated as planned.

Frequently asked questions

I'm switching from another provider – do I still need an electrician?

If there is already an active DSL connection at your address, an electrician is generally not required. A new line activation is only necessary if no active line exists yet.

How long does it take until activation?

This depends on Swisscom's availability. You will receive the definitive date by email from Teleboy as soon as Swisscom has confirmed it.

What happens on the activation date?

You don't need to do anything at home. Swisscom activates the line remotely. Once the activation is complete, you can connect and set up your router.
