Replay TV advertising: What has changed since 2022 – and what's new for 2025

Background: GT12 Industry Agreement

In 2020, the largest Swiss TV broadcaster groups and TV providers agreed on the GT12 industry agreement. The aim was to give broadcasters additional advertising opportunities in Replay TV and thus compensate for revenue losses caused by skipping adverts.
Teleboy is part of this agreement and must display the corresponding ad formats – this is not a voluntary decision.

Introduction of Replay Advertising 2022

On 4 October 2022, the implementation of this agreement began across Switzerland. Initially, it mainly affected private broadcasters such as RTL, ProSiebenSat.1 and CH Media (e.g. 3+, 4+, 5+, TV24 etc.).

The new advertising formats in Replay are:

  • Start-Ad: Short spot before the start of the programme
  • Pause-Ad: Static image during a pause
  • Fast-Forward-Ad: Short block when fast-forwarding over existing adverts

Public broadcasters such as SRF, ARD or ZDF were not affected at that time.

Important Change from Autumn 2025

From autumn 2025, the industry agreement will be extended:

  • Public broadcasters such as SRF, ARD, ZDF and ORF will also have to display Replay advertising.
  • Advertising will then be shown when starting, pausing and fast-forwarding – on all channels, regardless of provider or subscription.

This means the GT12 rules will then apply across the board.

What does this mean for you as a Teleboy customer?

  • Advertising will be shown in a compressed format, eliminating long ad breaks.
  • You will no longer have to manually fast-forward through entire ad blocks.
  • With the Skip-Ad function, you can continue to watch Replay programmes without this advertising – simply and conveniently with one click.
