Setting Up the FRITZ!Box (DSL & Fiber Optic)

A step-by-step guide for setting up your FRITZ!Box is available at teleboy.ch/setup or in the attachments at the bottom of this page.

⚠️ This article applies to you if: You are using your own FRITZ!Box, or the automatic configuration did not work and the red info LED is permanently lit.

1. Preparation (for both connection types)

Before you start the configuration, make sure you have access to the user interface:

  1. Establish connection: Connect your computer to the FRITZ!Box using a yellow LAN cable (alternatively via WLAN).
  2. Open the user interface: Enter http://fritz.box/ in your browser.
  3. Login: Use the password on the bottom of the box (FRITZ!Box password). Note: This is not the WLAN network key (WPA2).

2. Instructions for fibre (Glasfaser) connections

If you receive internet via the fibre socket, please apply the following settings:

Note: Make sure the fibre cable is plugged into slot 2 of the OTO socket. The colour of the cable does not matter.

  1. Menu path: Go to «Internet» → «Account Information».
  2. Provider: Select «Other internet provider».
  3. Internet connection via: Select «Fiber (Glasfaser)».
  4. Account information: Select «No».
If the option does not appear, make sure the view is set to «Advanced» or «Standard» at the edge of the screen.
  5. VLAN settings: Enable «Use VLAN for the internet connection» and enter VLAN ID 10.
  6. Finish: Click «Apply» and wait for the internet connection check to complete.
⚠️ If the connection check fails: Check that the fibre cable is firmly inserted in slot 2 and that the protective caps have been removed.

3. Instructions for DSL connections

If you have connected the FRITZ!Box to the telephone socket via the DSL cable, please follow these steps:

  1. Menu path: Go to «Internet» → «Account Information».
  2. Provider: Select «Other internet provider».
  3. Account information: When asked whether account information is required, select «No».
  4. Connection type: Set this to «DHCP».
  5. VLAN & Annex:
Try first without a VLAN ID. If the connection is not established after 2 minutes, enter VLAN ID 10 and click «Apply» again. Also select Annex A.
  6. Finish: Click «Apply».
Green info LED = connection successful.
⚠️ Red info LED = connection failed. Check the cable connection and try again with VLAN ID 10 + Annex A.

4. Set up WLAN

Once the configuration is complete, connect your devices to the WLAN:

  1. Select the FRITZ!Box WLAN network on your device.
  2. Enter the Network Key (WPA2) as the password. You will find this on the bottom of the router.

Alternatively, you can connect devices directly to the FRITZ!Box using a LAN cable.
