How do I update the firmware of my Zyxel router?
Up-to-date firmware keeps your Zyxel router secure and fixes bugs. Teleboy does not update the firmware of your Zyxel AX7501 automatically. You carry out the update yourself. Here is how to do it.
Short answer: download the current firmware for the Zyxel AX7501 from Studerus. Back up your settings in the router menu under «Maintenance» → «Backup/Restore». Then install the firmware under «Maintenance» → «Firmware Upgrade». Make sure the «Restore Default Settings After Firmware Upgrade» checkbox is not ticked.

Is my Zyxel router updated automatically?
No. Teleboy has no access to your router and therefore does not install firmware updates automatically. You carry out the update yourself via the router's user interface.
The firmware for the Zyxel AX7501 is no longer available on the official Zyxel website. You can only get it from Studerus, the Swiss general importer of Zyxel: download the firmware for the Zyxel AX7501.
ℹ Your own router
You can also use your own hardware. On a fiber optic connection (XGS), your device must be certified by its manufacturer for the Swisscom XGS network. Set the connection type to DHCP with VLAN ID 10.
Before the update: back up your settings
ℹ Will my settings be kept?
As a rule, your network settings are kept during a normal firmware update. To be on the safe side, we recommend backing up the configuration in the router menu before the update.
1Open the user interface
Connect your device to the router via LAN cable or WLAN and enter http://192.168.1.1 in your browser.
2Log in
Log in with the username admin and the password 1234. If 1234 does not work, use the password on the label on the router.
3Open the «Backup/Restore» menu
Click on «Maintenance» and then on «Backup/Restore».
4Save the backup
In the «Backup Configuration» section, click on «Backup». The configuration file is saved to your computer. Keep it in a safe place. Note: the «Reset» button on this page resets the router to factory settings. Do not click it.
If you need the backup later, open «Maintenance» → «Backup/Restore» again. In the «Restore Configuration» section, select the saved file and click on «Upload».
Downloading and installing the firmware
⚠ Before you start
Only use firmware made for this exact model, the Zyxel AX7501. Do not switch off or unplug the router during the update. Make sure the «Restore Default Settings After Firmware Upgrade» checkbox is not ticked. Otherwise the router will be reset to factory settings.
1Download the firmware
Download the firmware from Studerus. You will receive a ZIP file. Unzip it on your computer. It contains the firmware file with the extension .bin.
2Open the «Firmware Upgrade» menu
Log in to the user interface as described above. Click on «Maintenance» and then on «Firmware Upgrade». Under «Current Firmware Version» you can see which version is installed.
3Check the checkbox
In the «Upgrade Firmware» section, make sure that «Restore Default Settings After Firmware Upgrade» is not ticked.
4Select and upload the file
Click on «Choose File» or «Browse» (depending on your browser), select the .bin file and click on «Upload». You do not need the «Upgrade WWAN Package» section.
5Wait for the router to restart
The upload takes up to 3 minutes. The router then restarts automatically. Your internet connection is briefly interrupted. Do not switch off the router during this time.
After the update
1Check the version
Wait about 2 minutes and then log in to the user interface again. The «Connection Status» screen shows the installed firmware version. If it matches the version you downloaded, the update was successful.
2Check your settings
Check that the internet and WLAN work as usual. If any personal settings are missing, restore them with your backup.
